COLLETS HAVE A LIFE SPAN
Collets are a wear item and should be replaced regularly. Collets have a life span of 3 months if used 8 hours per day. Replacing collets will ensure your operation runs consistently and will help to extend tool life and prevent tool breakage. To ensure proper clamping the tool shank should fill at least 80% of the collet. If this cannot be achieved then use a collet life plug to ensure proper clamping effect. When inserting a tool into the collet, make sure the flute fadeout does not enter the collet.

Details: COLLET MAINTENANCE Cleaning is an essential part of maintaining a collet. As material is cut it causes the collet, tool holder, collet nut and spindle to become dirty. This causes the tool to cut in an elliptical fashion which will decrease tool life. Collets , tool holder and collet nut should be cleaned daily,using a rust free solvent and a brass brush or coffee filter. The spindle taper should be cleaned with the appropriate spindle wiper.
